August 7, 1941 - May 3, 2020
Richard M. Tuttle (Dick) age 78, of Mableton Georgia departed his earthly home on Sunday, May 3, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Harry M. Tuttle and Mrs. Thelma M. Tuttle of Smyrna, Georgia. He is survived by his loving wife Gloria J. King Tuttle, daughters and son in law, Angela Tuttle of Dallas, Amy Fowler and Chris Fowler of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Andrew Fowler and Ashley Fowler; brother and sister in laws, Jerry and Mary King of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joyce Hargis of Largo, Florida, Jessie and Janet Spears of Largo, Florida; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Dick was born in Atlanta and raised in Smyrna, Georgia, where his parents were chicken and tomato farmers. He graduated from Campbell High School and enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a Staff Sergeant at Dobbins Air Force Base. He went on to work for Bridgeport Brass, where a chance conversation with their office in Indianapolis introduced him to Gloria, who worked in the Indiana office for Bridgeport Brass. After several phone calls, letters and finally face to face meetings, they were wed and she moved to Georgia where they eventually made their home in Mableton. They raised their two daughters and were lovingly married for 52 1/2 years. He continued to work in the Steel industry as a Sales associate and retired from Reliance Steel and Aluminum. Dick was a traditional man who took pride in taking care of his home, yard and vehicles. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating and wood working. He was a very supportive Diddy who would cook steaks for his girls and their Girl Scout troop at camp, which earned him the name of "Boss". He spent several wonderful years making memories with family and friends at the lake house in Wedowee, Alabama. He looked forward to his monthly "Smyrna boys" luncheons with his old schoolmates. He was a gentle christian man who cherished his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private graveside service will be held Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later time once conditions from Covid-19 have changed. White Columns Chapel & Cremations is honored to serve the family of Richard M. Tuttle.
