Dudley Rochelle Carter

Dudley passed away peacefully in her sleep after her long battle from the effects of Alzheimers on March 4th, 2017. She was born in Franklinton, LA. where she attended elementary school, jr. high and high school. While in high school, she was a varsity cheerleader for 3 years. She was miss FHS and yearbook co-editor. Dudley finished in the top 5 students in the Louisiana National Merit Testing Program and finished 1st in the state as the algebraic champion and graduated with honors. Dudley was accepted into LSU on a political science scholarship, as well every military academy in the country due to her name, she chose LSU which she loved dearly until her death. While enrolled at LSU Dudley was a graduate of the Honors Division of College of Arts and Sciences, Phi Kappa Phi Mu Sigma Rho, Alpha Lambda Delta, National Merit Finalist, Louisiana Top 100 scholars, Dean’s list 8 semesters, LSU Alumni Federation Scholarship, Legislative Council Associated Women Students, Officer, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Lyceum Committee and LSU Union. Dudley loved LSU and the Tiger football program……, Geaux Tigers! Dudley and Jeff started the James A. Bolner and Dudley R. Carter Endowment in Political Sciences to help assist young students with their college expenses for years to come. After undergraduate school, Dudley was accepted into Yale Law School. She graduated with honors in 1975. After law school she worked pro bono for 1 year to help and assist disadvantaged or low income residents of Atlanta. Dudley had her own law practice for 10 years, named Spanos and Rochelle. After selling her firm, she was a senior partner with the Littler Mendelson firm for 17 years. Dudley was a founding member of the Church of the Apostles, as well a charter member of the American Red Cross Tiffany Circle of which she is a lifetime member. Dudley retired from her law firm in 2009 after the effects of Alzheimers made it impossible for her to deliver the quality of work that she had been accustomed to for many years. Dudley loved to travel, snow ski, and sit on the beach and read books or play Sudoku. She loved her gardens and flowers and would spend hours just sitting in the sun. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Cecil and Mildred Rochelle; step-daughters, Rebecca Anne Carter and Sarah Nicole Carter. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Carter; sister, Linda Garrett and husband, Larry Garrett. Dudley will be sorely missed by all who knew her or came in contact with her. Throughout her illness she was always a sweet, loving, and caring soul. She will be missed by all. Heaven is a better place. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 8 from 4pm to 7pm at White Columns Chapel & Cremations 1115 Clay RD SW Mableton, GA. Funeral services will be held in White Columns Funeral Chapel 11 am, Thursday, March 9 with Pastor Stan Carder officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton.
