Gene Henderson Sr

Gene Arthur Henderson Sr., age 80, of Powder Springs passed away peacefully late in the evening on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Mr. Henderson was born to Joel Lewis Henderson and Florence Woodle Henderson on March 12, 1933 in Greenwood, South Carolina. After high school, he received his bachelors from Clemson University. Mr. Henderson proudly served as a lieutenant in the United States Army until being honorably discharged. He worked at Lockheed as an electrical engineer for 43 years until retiring in 1998. He was a charter member and served as a deacon for Westside Baptist Church in Mableton. Gene Arthur Henderson Sr. is preceded in death by his son, Mark Fuller Henderson and his parents, Joel and Florence Henderson. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jean Fuller Henderson; daughters, Amanda and her husband David Walker of Knoxville, TN, Amy Henderson of Mableton, Bobbi Charles of Mableton, and Ava and her husband Rick Parker of Hiram; son, Art Henderson and his wife Vickie of Dallas; sister, Rita Cato of Griffin; ten grandchildren, Mathew and Joy Charles, Mark and Rebecca Charles, Alexis Parker, Leah Parker, Jacob Parker, Arthur Parker, Joshua Henderson, Emma Walker, Jerre Ann Walker, and Sarah Walker; and seven great-grandchildren, Wyatt Parker Matthews, Dawson Charles, Tucker Charles, Quin Charles, Ethan Charles, Journey Charles, and Tatum Charles. The family will receive friends 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, March 16, 2013 at White Columns Funeral Chapel in Mableton. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 pm Sunday, March 17, 2013 in the funeral home's chapel with Dr. A.T. Stewart officiating. A private committal service will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta.
