Ikanniwa Sofola

January 27, 1963 - July 7, 2019

Ikanniwa Anyibuofu Sofola, our beloved brother, brother- in- law, nephew, and uncle passed away suddenly at his home in Canton, GA, on July 7, 2019. Ikanniwa, affectionately known as Niwa, was born in Washington, DC, USA, on January 27, 1963 to the late, Professors Adeyemi Johnson Sofola(Father) of Irolu –Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria, and Professor Onuekwuke Nwazulu Okwumabua (Mother) of Issele-Ukwu Delta State, Nigeria. His parents resided in IIorin, Kwara State, Nigeria at the time of their deaths, in February, and September 1995, respectively. Niwa received his primary and secondary education at Staff school, located at the University of Ibadan, and Loyola College both in Ibadan, Nigeria respectively. After completion, he returned to the USA to attend college at the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, NM, where he studied Electrical Engineering and received high academic honors. Niwa then attended Georgia State University, in Atlanta, GA where he received a Business Management Certificate in local networking. He also attended Southern Polytechnic State University, Atlanta, GA and received certification as a Microsoft Systems Engineer. Niwa was a manager at Hewlett Packard in Atlanta, GA at the time of his death. Niwa was an avid reader and received much joy, and knowledge by pursuing this hobby. His love for reading was only superseded by love for Jesus Christ, family and friends, with whom he was very close. Survivors include his wife; Kimberly York-Sofola; sister, Oluwaseun N. Kibirige and Mustapha (Spouse), The Woodlands, TX; brother, Orebambo C. Sofola (Robin) Carnation, WA; brother, Ifeolumipo O. Sofola, MD (Yinka), Potomac, MD; brother, Akinbampebi I. Sofola ( Lynn) McDonough, GA and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A celebration of the life of Ikanniwa Anyibuofu Sofola will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at White Columns Chapel, 1115 Clay Road SW, Mableton, GA 30126. Calling hours and viewing from 11:00 AM – 1:00PM. Service will be held from 1:00PM -2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in the name of Ikanniwa Anyibuofu Sofola to: The Foundation For Special Surgery, 10221 River Road, Unit 60702, Potomac, MD 20854 (www.foundationforspecialsurgery.org). The Sofola Family offer our sincere thanks to all of you for your kindness in this time of our bereavement. Whether it was flowers, words of encouragement, prayers, or just your being here, made this burden so much easier to bear. We shall always be thankful for you and to God for You.
