Margaret Black died peacefully on October 3, 2017 following a brief illness. Margaret was born in Atlanta, GA to Otis L. Walker and Myrtis Elliott Walker on December 21, 1917. She was raised in Atlanta, GA, and was married to Dennis D. (Dick) Black on March 25, 1937. They raised their family in Atlanta and they also enjoyed spending time at their second home in Titusville, FL for many years. Margaret’s sweet spirit, thoughtfulness and kindness nurtured loving relationships with all her family and friends. Her devotion to all those she touched will be forever cherished and long remembered. Above all, Margaret was devoted to her family. She was a mother and grandmother who always stayed in touch and wanted to be a part of each of her family members lives. She had very special relationships with each and every family member and kept them in her thoughts and prayers daily. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick Black and her son, Jerry Black. She is survived by her son, Robert E. Black, Sr. (Susan); and her grandchildren, Robert E. Black, Jr. (Lisa), David M. Black (Jennifer), Kevin Black, Dennis Black (Theresa), Claire Dobbs, Hank Dobbs (Sabrina), Jody Camp (David) and Melinda Turnell (Rick). “Grandma” will be greatly missed by her 11 great grandchildren, Brandon Black (Becky), Carson Black, Taylor Black, Maddie Black, Reagan Black, Avery Black, Caleb Black, Katelyn Dobbs, Landon Dobbs, Anna Turnell, Jamie Turnell; and her 2 great-great granddaughters, Sophie Black & Ellie Black. Margaret is also survived by her nephew, Ben Walker; great-nephews Steve Walker (Dawn) and Doug Walker; and great-great niece (Sidney). Margaret was a member of Milford Baptist Church and resided in Smyrna for over 40 years. She was blessed to have been surrounded by such a wonderful faith family and neighbors whom she loved and cared for as if they were her own family. Mary Lippitt (caregiver) and many other dear friends lovingly cared for Margaret in recent years. The family gives them and everyone else who cared for Margaret their greatest gratitude. Visitation will be held at White Columns Chapel, 1115 Clay Rd, Mableton, GA on Monday, October 9th from 11AM-1PM. Margaret’s funeral service will follow in White Columns Chapel at 1PM with Rev. Clarence Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Margaret's memory to Milford Baptist Church, Wellstar Community Hospice or a charity of your choice.
