Sherla LeCraw

Biography Born in Bristol, Virginia on February 23, 1928 to Carl Worly Miller and Connie Theo Rozier Miller, Sherla Meleese Miller LeCraw grew in up Valdosta, Georgia living with her aunt and uncle, John and Josephine Rozier Aldridge. She graduated in 1944 from Valdosta High School where she played basketball and was Head Majorette. She graduated in 1949 from Georgia State Women's College (currently Valdosta State University) with a B.A. in Social Science. She taught elementary school in Florida for two years and several other schools in Georgia thru 1961 and was also a stewardess for Delta Airlines in 1951. In 1952 she married C. Veazey LeCraw, Sr. and together they had three children, Chuck LeCraw born in 1953, Chris LeCraw born in 1959 and Jody LeCraw born in 1964. In 1952, Sherla joined North Avenue Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She joined "Song of Atlanta" chorus of Sweet Adelines International in 1969 and sang with them for 35 years until she became an Honorary Member in 2004. She also sang with the Gadabouts Quartet for several years. In 2004 Sherla was diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease and underwent surgery for Breast Cancer. Besides being survived by her husband, two sons and daughter, she is survived by seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; half-brother, David Miller; half-sister, Trudy Salimino and two other half-sisters.
