Windle Hurd
June 12, 1925 - November 6, 2009
Mr. W.W. Hurd, age 84, of Mableton, Georgia joined the Lord on November 6, 2009 after a lifetime accented with extraordinary highlights. Wayne was born to George and Mary Hurd on June 12, 1925 in Fort Worth, Texas. At the age of eighteen he enlisted in the US Army. After basic training the commander called a formation and asked for volunteers for a new elite unit. He and a buddy decided "How bad could it be?" and volunteered to join. He found himself in Company D, 5th Battalion Rangers, and participated in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star five times. After the war, Wayne went on to become a tool and die maker. His exceptional skill gave him opportunity to produce machines that made parts for Snapper Mowers, Ford trucks, and hundreds of other companies. Wayne attended several churches over the course of his lifetime but most notably was a deacon at Buffington Road Christian Church in the 1970's. Wayne married Anne Howell (1933-1998,). Wayne is survived by Brenda Cadenhead, Phillip, Daphne, and D'Art Hurd, Dawn and Travis Hancock, Daniel Hammond, Beth, Chris, and Preston Carver, two sisters, Lalita Shelton and Julia Ann Cannon, as well as many nieces and nephews.
